Building a state-of-the-art club in the centre of Prague

It's early evening, and Revoluční street is bursting with life. Some people are still hurrying to a nearby shopping centre, while others go for a drink on the side street of Dlouhá, rightly considered one of the epicentres of Prague nightlife.

Few who walk past the still-unmarked entrance to Revoluční 3 will have thought about the huge changes taking place inside, just a few metres from the busy sidewalk. Covering three underground floor, the greatest club ever to appear in Prague is nearing completion – greatest not only because of its top sound system and lighting, but also because of the intricacy of its sophisticated interiors.

The construction of the club began in the autumn of 2016. "We’ve been planning a night club in Prague for almost three years. It’s a very demanding project,” says Peter Štecko, CEO of Medusa Group, which, along with Ministry, is behind Epic. “Nevertheless,” he continues, “we believe that our long-term effort, energy and the work we have put into preparation will turn into a successful concept that will bring something genuinely new to Prague nightlife."

After carefully choosing the perfect location, and developing detailed architectural and technological plans, Epic began to move from the drawing board to reality last year. Because of the technological complexities of the project and the condition of the existing space, construction had to begin completely from scratch. And for a project of this magnitude, construction is definitely not a matter of a few weeks.

The entire club occupies 2500 m². The main hall will be almost 7 meters high, framed by a gallery, and a VIP zone for about 90 people. The club will feature the celebrated L-Acoustics K2 sound system, more than 100 m² of P 3.9 LED screens, and state-of-the-art lighting technology.

"When someone comes here for a fun evening, what will strike them is the overall feeling of visiting a world class venue. They’ll notice how the bars look, the materials decorating the walls, the comfortable furnishings. Nobody’s going to compliment us on our 160 cubic metre water tank in the basement, or our powerful reserve diesel generator!" laughs Karol Fügersy, Technical Director of Medusa Group. While enormous attention has been paid to invisible yet crucial matters as fire safety and acoustic design, one must not forget the main reason why people go to the club – its energetic atmosphere and uplifting environment.

Because Epic is a large underground complex, the technical demands for fire safety are very high. "Of course, we all have incorporated all these high-level technical requirements. But as I always say, even a small detail that you’ve forgotten about can spoil the final impression. That's why, as well as the big technological issues that everyone takes for granted, we’re really trying to think of absolutely everything, to make every detail perfect,” says Fügersy – and with that, he interrupts the conversation to talk to one of the builders about a gap he’s noticed between two tiles at the entrance to the cloakrooms.

As Leonardo da Vinci once said: Details make perfection, and perfection is not a detail. And Epic aims to be perfect in every way.
